DSC's Executive Blade: The Father-in-Law's Report

You'll remember that my first ever contact with Dollar Shave Club Australia was my purchase of the 6-blade Executive Blades and its subsequent review. Well, like my AussieShave.com experience before it, I didn't cancel my subscription fast enough. So I received another month's supply of the blades but, by then, I'd moved onto RazorWorld's blades. So.... um... what to do with the extra blades?

It was an innocent conversation around the dinner table. I was talking about this blog when my father in-law's rebar like facial hair was mentioned. "Ah ha!", I exclaimed unnecessarily enthusiastically, although people who know me would understand that that is what I do. I will ask my Father In-Law (from here, referred to as "Fil") to try the DSC Australia blades. So, after a couple of weeks using the Executive blades, we had a chat.

I'm in a fortunate position. Being retired, I don't have to rush my shaves. There's no run out the door at 7 O'clock to get to work for me, so I can take a bit more time and care shaving.

Now, that said, I've been using a Schick triple blade for... oh, years. And Palmolive Men's Shave Foam. I've used other shave crèmes but I always find the foam is better. It's got better coverage and you can see where you've been!

Now, my beard is to something akin to barbed wire. The problem with the Schick blade is that after about 4 shaves, I can start to feel it pull, drag and start to cut. The other blade (The DSC Australia Executive) was brilliant. It gave a really smooth shave. And that's saying something because this is a tough face.

How about its longevity? Did it last longer than the Schick blades?
Oh, considerably! At least six shaves and it was still going strong. And, because I can take my time, there were no disasters. I didn't have to race out and pick up that girl and take her to the dance!

When I used it, I found the trimmer blade couldn't get the right angle for me. How did you find the trimmer?
It was fine. It dealt with the bits it needed to deal with.

Okay. So in conclusion?
A very good shave.

Thanks for your comments, Fil.

I find it really interesting to see what other people think of the blades. Two different shave company representative stated their (separate) opinion that shaving can be a very personal experience.  I would certainly agree with that statement. The preparation, the actions, the post-shave feel- all subjective, all personal and all very different. That is one of the reasons I am so pleased I can get other people's comments and perspectives of the blades and shave products.

Next week will be the final review of a Dollar Shave Club Australia product (I'll be finishing my twin blade review) as I start to experience a different monthly shaving subscription company.
