Blade II- The Twin Blade Lives

While this is actually a further look at the Dollar Shave Club Australia's "The Humble Twin" razor, I have to start off with a bit of a story first. It's (hopefully!) entertaining and does definitely lead to a point.

A couple of weeks ago, you may have noticed I was publicising the recent BadHairBoy sale (it's over now. Sadly). I took advantage of that sale to purchase some of the Proraso Eucalyptus and Menthol Shaving Cream. I made this purchase mainly for self-preservation. Let me explain.

As you know from my earlier review, I had previously purchased some excellent Proraso Sandalwood and Shea Butter Shaving Cream. I also wanted to try out the really cool sounding Marvis Cinnamon Mint Tooth Paste, so I bought some of that as well. All sounds rather easy, doesn't it? Well, let me tell you that when you are only recently awake, before that first cup of coffee, in the dull light that is 6.30 in the morning, it is really easy to get the two red tubes confused. So, much to the amusement of Mrs TMB, there was an occasion when I started to brush my teeth with the shaving crème. What a taste experience that was!

That partly leads me to discussing my subsequent weeks and razor cartridge experience with the Dollar Shave Club Australia (DSC Australia) Twin-blade razor. Let me say that I continue to be impressed. It is a great shave and at a great price. Although the second blade didn't seem to last as long as the first week, the remaining three were stalwarts. Perhaps that is why they don't muck around and supply 5 cartridges per month.

It was a good shave and there has not been that ... pause... and caution before shaving. There is a confidence: grabbing the handle and metaphorically attacking my facial hair. Trimming, with the thinner, more agile cartridge, is simple, whether it be my annoying bit (that I always seem to talk about) or trimming my sideburns. The DSC Australia name for the blade, The Humble Twin, is an appropriate description for this sturdy, reliable and humble blade.

So, back to the horror story. I know you can probably foresee what is coming and it was the only time the blade let me down. Yes, in my semi-asleep state, I did apply the Cinnamon Mint Tooth Paste to my face instead of the Proraso shaving crème. You should take note of a couple of things that I learned during this experience. First, toothpaste is not a good shaving crème alternative. Second, it gave quite a burning feeling. Remember that time when you were a kid and you sneaked into your Dad's bathroom and tried out his cheap aftershave for the first time. Remember that burn? Well, you can relive it by applying toothpaste to your skin (not recommended!). Third, it takes a bit of time to wash the toothpaste off your skin.

When I first reviewed this blade, I concluded nice things about the DSC Australia twin blade. Those sentiments remain. Thanks again to Dollar Shave Club Australia for the opportunity to try out this razor set.
