Testing BadHairBoy and his Proraso Shaving Cream

Do they still make Brut Shave Crème ?

TriShave 3in1 Anti-Rash Shave Crème, Michael Klim's Shave Milk (by Milk and Co) and Somerset Shaving Oil. These three products have been my main shaving crème alternatives for a long time. Sure, when I was younger, I used the Brut 33 shave crème ('cause everyone used that back then!), a range of the usual supermarket brands, as well as the odd bar of soap. Ouch! However, more recently, I have settled upon my three favourites. Consistent. Smooth and clean feeling and not too expensive.

So, it was with this background, I thought I would splash a little bit of cash on BadHairBoy's imported Proraso Shaving Crème . Cost wise, it was about 50% more expensive than Trishave and comparable to Michael Klim's Shave Milk. Certainly within the affordable and practical price range.

This was my first shopping experience with BadHairBoy and it went like every other bland Internet purchase. Put in cart, go to check out, get electronic invoice and wait for purchase to arrive.

The package arrived in good condition and had a BadHairBoy logo stamped on the outside. This made it clear who it was from and I could not help but get a little excited. I ripped it open to reveal my purchased items and, yes, they were all there. Notably, they were securely packaged, not floating around in the box as I had expected. (CDs and books from Amazon, I expect protection from damage. Shaving stuff, nope. But here it was, packed to avoid sliding around.)

What was different was that on the top of the invoice, was a hand written note to thank me for the purchase and hope that I'll enjoy the products. As far as BadHairBoy was concerned, I was just a anonymous purchaser but that didn't stop them adding a personal touch. Something I think shows great business sense and adds to an otherwise bland customer experience.

But, onto the Proraso Shaving Crème. I was changing blades when I received the crème and didn't want to change both blade and crème  at the same time, so I waited a couple of days to get used to the new blade before using the crème. I now wish I didn't wait those extra days....

The light brown crème oozes out of the tube like a moist shave crème. Hmm. What I mean is its consistency is not as thick as what I think of as tubed shaving crème, but certainly thicker than Shave Milk, and less viscous than the Trishave product. I smoothed the crème onto my face and, even then, realised that this was a different feeling product. I cannot explain why I thought that, but it just felt different.

And then I shaved. I still remember that first shave. I was standing there thinking, "How can this be so good? And how can it be different to my previous shaving crèmes?" It made the task of shaving easy, clean and very efficient. After shaving, my face was smooth with a soft, delightful aroma that I can only think is the sandalwood. Over the next couple of days, I repeatedly reflected upon these thoughts. The fantastic quality of the shave and my disappointment I had not tried the product earlier. I also learnt that I could significantly decrease the amount of crème I needed to use.

So, in conclusion, let me make myself very clear. Proraso Shaving Crème is the best shaving crème  product I have used. You should buy some.
