DollarShaveclub.com: I Subscribe and I Receive

Following a couple of weeks procrastinating, I finally decided to go with DollarShaveClub.com for my next subscription shave experience. Like previous, I contacted the company by email first, to get their suggestion about which blades I should try.

After all the hype over their viral advertising video and their product, I was pretty pleased that they launched an Australian branch of their company. However, I was disappointed to have received a reply email from overseas. The email was sent by "Lissa" at "Pacific Daylight Time", so I am assuming North America however it could be just an email time stamp so could be anywhere. Since I received the email at 2.24am, I had serious doubts it was from inside Australia. But, it's a multinational company, with representatives in Australia so, goodness, perhaps I was being naive.

The email was helpful, and reinforced the fact that the Executive blade comes with a "trimmer on the reverse." Bravo. I'll give that one a try, thanks!

I popped over to their website and undertook the relatively painless task of signing up. Here's the real kicker- the next day, I received a follow-up email from Lissa welcoming me to the DollarShaveClub. That was unexpected and a really nice touch. (Thanks Lissa!)

It was the 11th of the month that I joined up with Dollarshaveclub for their $10/month Executive blade. By the end of the same week- whammo!- a package in the mail. Inside, was the handle, three cartridges and a welcome card.
The Dollarshaveclub Handle
The handle feels nicely weighted, with rubber grips and a metallic (aluminium?) frame. The weight was a surprise as I expected some form of light, plastic handle. This felt "like the business".

The three blades come in a little blade holder that can hold four blades. Again, this packaging was nice- I had expected something far less formal. The casing is solid and the cartridges are firmly inserted. They ain't gonna fall out! There is a fair bit of rubber lining on the base of the cartridge to lift the hair before it reaches the six blades and a lubricating strip at the top.

Constructed, the set-up looks very similar to many other shavers available on the market. Somewhat streamlined in appearance, with a head that seems to be reaching forward. As usual, it's all in the use and I am looking forward to using this shaver.

Constructed with blade. Note the extremely straight edge at the top of the razor? That is the trimmer blade.
