AussieShave.com First shave: Supreme razor

I write this first-use report about 3 weeks after the actual first use. However, I remember precisely how it felt when I used the AussieShave.com razor for the first time.

What first stuck me when I lifted the handle and blade up to use was how light it felt. It is only when you go through those habitual movements that some little things more from conceptual awareness into reality. Lifting the blade to shave for the first time was one of those moments. It felt like.... like a plastic disposable razor but of far better quality.

I had prepared my face to shave as I had prepared it almost daily for many months before. I applied the Shaving Milk on my two day growth (I didn't shave the day before in preparation for the First Use) ensuring appropriate cover, placed the blade against my face, pulled the skin slightly taught and moved the razor across my face.

The first shave...I remember it well. It was on the left cheek, under the sideburns. It felt like it was ripping the whiskers out individually. As if I was using a blunt razor. In his earlier email, Bruce, the company guy, had said that it can take a couple of weeks getting used to the new blades, so I put this experience down to being a different blade and razor. Surprisingly, the rest of the shave was okay. However, it still didn't feel like I was using an ultra-sharp razor. It still felt a bit like the hair was being stretched and scratched off, not lifted and sliced.

Rough. That's the word. The razor felt rough. What is quite incredible is that, even with the rough feeling during the shave, it gave a really good shave. My face felt smooth and clean. I was really impressed.

I am used to my old Schick razor having that pop back feature to the blade so you can easily trim under your nose. I fooled around for ages with the AussieShave.com Supreme razor; pushing, pressing and pulling things- just trying to figure out where the "trimmer" was and how to get the d@mn thing to work. It was only later that I discovered the "trimmer" blade is built into the top of the razor, with a protective plastic grating or comb over the top of it. This protection renders the "trimmer" almost useless for what I need it for. Luckily, I still have my Schick to finish off those bits. I will say that it was a definitely a different feel to the shave, although the end result was pretty darn good.
