Establishing the baseline.

So, some shaving background to set up the "status quo" or, more correctly, my "baseline". I will say that I enjoy shaving. I am not a nut about it, I don't spend hours researching and stuff like that. I just don’t find it a chore and kinda enjoy it.

Shave Frequency
I am the type of guy who shaves almost every day, although really needs to shave about every day and a half. This means that some days the facial hair is pretty short and although I need to shave for work... well... I am sure you know the story. Too close, a skin rash, bleeding. Yuck.

Shave crème
Traditional shaving crème? No, not for a long time. I generally avoid it but will use it if necessary. (I did once get a great Schick shaving cream on a ?Qantas flight once. Never been able to find the same again). I am sure I am like most guys, I have also had the emergency occasion to shave with soap (AUGH!) or shampoo (oh, dear). Anyway, after a long use of Somerset Shaving Oil (I will add that Somersets Shaving Oil is an excellent product), I now oscillate between;
    -  Milk and Co's Moisturising Shave Milk ( Milk and Co by Michael Klim) or
    - Trishave's 3in1 Anti-rash shave crème (It's the Trishave product with tea tree oil ).
As I will discuss another time, I think these are superior shaving products for my face (and so is the Somerset's product, too!).

Blades, razors and shavers
Down to brass tacks. For many years, I was using the reliable Gillette MACH 3 razor. (See more about the Gillette MACH3 Turbo). Then, a friend talked about their experience using a 5-blade razor and recommended I give it a go. 'Why not give it a try', I thought. So, i went out and purchased a brand spanking new razor set- and I  have not looked back. The blade I used was the excellent Schick Hydro 5 with the flip-top head that reveals the trimmer thingo. (See more about the Schick Hydro 5).

Facial hair?
No. My attempts at a beard, moustache or goatee are so poor that Movember would reject me :-) So, all I have is some sideburns.

So, that's the baseline. It is the canvas upon which I paint. Gosh, that is a bit poetic. Let's change it to being the face upon which I shave. Next up, arranging and receiving the first subscription shaver....
